Add a Shopify product video from a single photo

Shopify's product media gallery will play a video beside your images. Themes differ on autoplay, but the file itself is just another piece of media on the product. The missing piece for most catalogs is the file, not the theme setting.

Make a square clip

Pick the 1:1 frame. A vertical clip inside a square gallery gets letterboxed and looks like a mistake. Three seconds is enough. The point is that the material moves when someone hovers or the gallery advances, not that you tell a story.

Upload it in admin, not in a page builder first

• Open the product in Shopify admin.
• In Media, add the MP4 next to the main photo.
• Drag it to the position you want. First is right for a hero, second is right if the still must stay the thumbnail.
• View the product on a phone. Some themes crop differently than desktop.

If a section of the theme only accepts images, use the GIF there and keep the MP4 in the main gallery. Motionframe does not connect to your store. You download the file and upload it yourself, which also means a bad render never publishes on its own.
